There are good treatments for ADD, best to talk to a doctor about those.

Dyslexia is a problem of improperly connecting the letters one reads to the phonemems (sp, the sounds) they represent which in turn makes reading difficult. The misconnection is what causes one to read one when something else was written. Dyslexia is not the transposition of letters or numbers on a page, a trait that, dispite myth, is rare amoung dyslexics.

for me ..it takes two or three attempts to " get it" when Im reading a book
I spell phonetically at times and switch letters
      mis spell all the time
hear things when its not what someone has said but sounds like it..
anything in sequence is my nemesis.. I can do open book exams in math an its great.. Its hard to memorize steps
cant remember names but faces... great
details .. forget it .. I can get an answer on a estimated guess...

      it goes on and on..

cant afford to get tested for either one Dys or ADD but I know... my life as proof..

        I have both.
I was treated alot for dyslexia as a child, didn't do much good though. I wasn't diagnosed with ADD until much later.
Currently I am taking Strattera for the ADD, it's helping me *somewhat*, I do feel bouts of concentration while doing exams in class and have been getting better grades. On the other hand, I do go bazurk if I forget to take it, and I have morning sickness and other very enjoyable side effects. I also take Omega 3 fish oil caplets, hoping it might help, nothing confirmed so far. As far as Dislexia is concerned I haven't found anything to even help with it, just makes my learning a little bit more annoyingly slow.

Is strattera the first ADD med you've taken?

Effexor is known to have some of the most severe side-effects, many of which you have listed, though not everyone suffers from them. The extender release form, EffexorXR, is suppose to lessen the side-effects, which in my case leaves me wondering how bad the normal version is (I had trouble holding food down with EffexorXR). It is used for ADD as well as depression.

Since you said Strattera (and Effexor) aren't providing much benefit, you should go back to your doctor and talk about other meds. Don't expect any of them to be a prefect solution, most just lessen the ADD symptoms.

I've never tried the regular Effexor, only EffexorXR. the side effects we're really bad when I started taking it (I threw up daily for the first month), but eventually it helped alot, it changed my life for the best. With Effexor you have to be Really patient because the first 3 to 6 months are Hell, but in the end I would actually say I get more benefits than side effects (I've been on it for 3 years). As far as Strattera is concerned I jus started it about 3 months ago, and so far just a little improvement has been noticed. I cannot say I suggest it fully yet, but then again I'm hangning in there, even with the nasty side effects, because I learned from my experience with Effexor, I'll take whatever improvement I can get for now and hope for more benefits and lesser side effects in time.

You're more patient then most, most people give up after a week or two tops if it is causing them to vomit daily (which is extremely unhealthy all by itself).

I'm not patient at all, I'm just in a place right now in my life where I really want to get better, and I am, slowly. I'm tired of being tired! I'm tired of failiure. I'm exhausted of living in chaos, starting things I never finish and always feeling like a dog chasing after it's tail ;)
